The Toyota Hilux is the working pickup of Saudi Arabia: a one-tonne payload, a body-on-frame chassis, and parts in every industrial city in the Kingdom. For a contractor that last point is the argument — a truck off the road earns nothing.
How much does a used Toyota Hilux cost in Saudi Arabia?
A 2020 Hilux averaged SAR 57,000 in our closed Kingdom sales. Live prices run from SAR 60500 for a higher-mileage worked truck up to SAR 98750 for a tidy early-2020s one. The spread reflects hours worked more than plate year, so read condition first.
Which used Toyota Hilux year should you buy?
2018 to 2022 if the budget reaches. The eighth-generation Hilux arrived for 2016 with a stiffer chassis, quieter cab and better brakes, so 2016 is the line to be on the right side of. It was facelifted for 2021 with a stronger diesel and a new front end. The 2005 to 2015 truck still works and costs little to run, but is a slower, noisier place to spend a shift.
Is a used Toyota Hilux reliable in Saudi Arabia?
On the expensive faults it is the best thing in its class. Only 8% of the Toyota Hiluxes we inspect in the Kingdom show a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 20% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage here — and these are trucks with a median of around 171,000 km behind them, so that figure is earned. Interior wear is low too, 3% showing staining against the 14% expected for the class. What varies is how hard the bed and rear suspension have been worked, which is what the report shows you.
Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger?
The Ford Ranger is the direct rival and better equipped, but 35% of the ones we inspect show a mechanical fault, against the 19% we would expect for pickups of its age here. The Chevrolet Silverado tows far more for far more money, with electrical faults on 26% against the 10% expected for full-size pickups here.
What to inspect before you buy
Read the chassis and suspension sections of the CarSwitch inspection report before you commit to any Hilux in the Kingdom — that is the difference between a bargain and lost days.
